Maybe VS May be

I bet a lot of people get confused whether to use "maybe" or "may be". I used to get confused too back at college. But then, I googled this matter and well, it helped.


Maybe (adverb) -----> perhaps, probably
E.g. Maybe I'll come to the party. -----> Perhaps I'll come to the party.


May be (verb phrase) -----> two words showing possibility
E.g. I may be late to the party. -----> I could be late to the party.


May be is simply a modal auxiliary +be when it is followed by an adjective, a present participle, or a past participle.
